Kiev artist Leonid Markovich Turoverova can be called a master of pictorial sketch-thumbnails and reportage illustration, which in recent decades has almost disappeared from our art, meanwhile, is determined almost one of the most attractive traditions — classic "artist's sketchbook" in love with nature, it is changeable and eternal beauty, "the man with the notebook", carrying on the paper-person events, meetings, of which one way or another life and time. And if the understated beauty of his paintings gives the audience the joy of recognition, recalls what he saw, the sketches and sketches, developed gradually in a long series of "Drawings from the track of the album", become today a kind of documentary-historical sense.

However, the work of Leonid Markovich, his professional position and life path reveals one of the most important pages of domestic art of the mid-twentieth century, unfortunately, bypassed professional and spectator attention. In the public consciousness in recent years, as you know, firmly entrenched ideas about the art of the "era of stagnation" on the hard opposition of socialist realism, and underground, striking out thus a total picture of other ways and personal position. Meanwhile, in these years there was quite a range of artists, loyal, not social realism, and the realism of Russian art, the cult of nature, which has formed in it at the turn of XIX—XX centuries, giving rise to a broad tradition of landscape studies, all of these "Winters" and "Springs", "Quiet" and "night is falling", which made up the authentic charm of the Russian and Ukrainian landscape painting, and with it respect for human feelings, attention to life in its simple manifestations, reflected in the drawings. Such work in these years was usually located somewhere in the corners of art exhibitions, impressed by the pomp aggressive "thematic" paintings, however, has always attracted the audience with their true peaceful living votes, referring to his feelings, emotions, memories. This art belongs and creativity Turoverova.

He was born in 1920 in Kiev, here graduated from art school, and in 1952 Kyiv art Institute. "My teachers were the unforgettable Ivan Horodecki, Konstantin N. Spruce, Illarion Nikolaevich pleschinskiy, academician Vasily Kasiyan, thanks to them I became an artist", — says Leonid Markovich. The first work is sketches of the neighbors on Khreschatyk street in Kiev, genre scenes in the suburbs and poor life of communal apartments. In 1946, the first year student of graphic faculty he begins to print his drawings in the newspaper "Kolhospne village" gradually linking with magazine and newspaper graphics most of his life. Maybe so passionate about the nomadic life of a newspaperman, he first became a member of the Union of journalists and already much later, in 1980-m to year, Mature, middle-aged man — of the Union of artists of Ukraine... Work at the newspaper gave him much opportunity to travel, see and meet different people, demanded precision of the eye, constant attention to life, the ability to notice and capture in the image the main, memorable, and yet — the ability to paint, what is called "for itself" to write at the behest of the soul, and to keep in the Studio dozens of landscapes, still, small genre scenes, attracting the deep unostentatious sincerity, honesty, lyricism, which constitute the essence of the domestic realist tradition...

His paintings (often of small size) make up a "travel diary", the leaves of which stayed the morning in Gurzuf, melting snow near Kiev, hot day in Samarkand, bright summer in Chernihiv, autumn twilight near Moscow... most of all I love his "grey" landscapes: the deaf woods in a rainy day, dirt road with a lonely figure some women with the bag, stopped the lake or evening highway from the old "victory" on the side... They remind me of childhood trips to the country and people .

"Drawings from the track of the album" evolved over decades, when Leonid Markovich, the correspondent of the magazine "Ogonek", press Agency "news", "Working papers" drove across the country, watching her weekdays and holidays. Although the first drawings appeared early, in his student years. So, in 1947, a student copying a painting by Levitan in the Tretyakov gallery, he suddenly met by Boris Pasternak. Then Leonid Markovich did not know of his poems, and a conversation ensued around the creativity of his father, artist Leonid Pasternak. The drawing was done quickly, and only years later, rereading the poems of the great poet, he was sorry that this meeting was so short... the album Leonid Markovich left the actual portraits of Leonid Pervomaisky, Ilya Ehrenburg, whom he met in Moscow and the House of creativity of writers in Koktebel, Mikhail Svetlov, Arkady Raikin, Emil Gilels, David Oistrakh, Maxim Rylsky, Martiros Saryan, Bulat Okudzhava, Yevgeny Yevtushenko, and many other known and unknown people that took his life. Many of these drawings were exhibited at the exhibitions of the artists-journalists, regular participant of which was Leonid Markovich. Collected in one album, they allow the artist to turn the pages of past years, once again convinced, how much can make a modest man with a notebook and pencil, if he loves life and people.
