Grigorievna Abakelia

Honored art worker of the Georgian SSR ( c 1942).

Was born on 19 August (1 September n. V.), 1905, in Khoni (Georgia). In the years 1923-29 he studied at the Tbilisi Academy of arts under I. Nikoladze, N. P.Kandelaki, E. E. Lanceray and A. I. Charlemagne. Peculiar sculptural works Abakelia romantic elation, generality and monumentality of images (the monument to Lesja Ukrainka in Surami, 1952, etc.) manifest themselves in her graphic works ? the illustrations for "the knight in the Panther's skin" Rustaveli (1936?37.), design and illustrations for "David of Sasun" (1939), the illustrations to the works of Vazha Pshavela (1947). Abakelia issued a number of plays and movies. Awarded the order of red banner of Labor.
