Initially he studied painting with Haman in Alton, and then his resettlement in Danzig, took up painting. In 1707, he enrolled in the Berlin Academy. Soon his name became known throughout Europe, and he began to receive orders from different sovereign persons. Especially a lot of portraits written for the Duke Christian-Ludwig. Mecklenburg. D. portraits, for which he took a very high cost, are distinguished by extreme care letters reaching pettiness and dryness, dullness and color irregularity of the image. For all that, as works very interesting in its kind, they are stored in mnogih museums in Berlin, Braunschweig, Dresden, Munich, Paris and other places.
