With 1902. academician, the author of a number of buildings in Moscow and other cities.

The leading master of Russian art Nouveau, although not of architectural education. Worked as a theater set decorator and book Illustrator, then as an assistant to the architects M. C. Terek, A. S. Kaminsky, in 1880-e years independently designs and builds private apartment houses, suburban villas, theaters and Bank buildings. In his work reflected all the major styles of domestic architecture of the turn of XIX and XX centuries. IN N. Novgorod Shekhtel designs in 1910-ies in the modern style for Industrialists Rukavishnikova the interiors of their home city (Sverdlov str., 39A) and consisting of two buildings, the Bank (St. Mayakovsky, 23 and N.-Volzhskaya Naberezhnaya, 11), widely using in their art of glazed ceramics, iron casting and sculpture. Apparently, he then rebuilds to a restaurant on the first floor Ostatochnoi (street Sverdlova, 12), the façade and interiors of which have survived.
