Student of the Academy of fine Arts, first in architecture and then in painting. A landscape painter. (Kondakov)

Paul Gerhard von Rosen in 1874 – 78 years were studied architecture at the Petersburg Academy of arts, and at that time he began to study painting.

In 1883 he went to Dusseldorf and to 1886 he studied with Professor E. Dicker.

About 1891 goes to Riga in the student journey and remain here to live. Here Rosen is associate Professor of the Architectural faculty of the Riga Polytechnic Institute where he teaches painting. In parallel, he teaches painting at the art school E. stilingi the cabin boy and when in 1906 the school was transformed into Riga city art school, Rosen to become its Director.

Since the artist was in contact with the circle of Latvian artists (participated in their fairs, for example in the exhibition of Latvian artists in Koknese (1904), the exhibition of the salon art Ricsta J. (1910), etc.), he became friends with the painter Wilhelm Purvitis, with whom he participated in painting the interior (the species of Riga, revel and Estonskogo seaside) Riga City Museum of fine arts.

In most he turned to the genre of landscape, and depicted the Latvian landscape harmonious, peaceful and lyrical. When Rosen lived in Riga, he also used the technique of watercolor.
