Biography and information

[6(18).11.1881, S. Palucki, now Panevezys district - 10.11.1944, Kaunas], Lithuania sculptor. He studied in St. Petersburg school of the society for the encouragement of arts (1907-10) and in AH (1910-16) with G. R. Zaleman and V. A. Beklemishev. From 1918 he lived in Lithuania. Works: realistic portraits (including bas-relief); the monuments of J. Basanavičius (bronze, 1930) and S. Daukantas (bronze, 1924); the statue of "the Bookman" (bronze, 1928-39) in Kaunas; tombstone M. K. čiurlionis (cement, bronze, 1931) Rasos cemetery in Vilnius: a number of genre works. He taught at the Kaunas Art school (1928-40) and the Institute of applied and decorative art (1940-44).
