Carver on wood, one of the Russian nuggets opened in by P. Svinyina. Son Kostroma tradesman, a petty trader, Zakharov from early childhood he showed inclination to drawing and carving, studied at one of the Kostroma masters, and in 1810 reached St. Petersburg, where he worked in the workshops of foreign carvers. In 1823 Svinyin found a broken mirror works like Peter the Great; this is vanity, he wished to repair. Someone pointed out to him in Russian nugget-Carver Zakharov. Svinyin instructed fixation dressing Zakharov, was pleased with the work and, as usual, eagerly accepted the propaganda of the open genius nugget of Russian commoners. Thanks to the raised agitation, Russian Carver Zakharov began to receive large orders, among which we will call: the Department at the Transfiguration Cathedral, the iconostasis of the Cathedral of Christ's Resurrection at the Smolny Institute, chandeliers for the Mikhailovsky Palace, the ornament to a Royal box at the Alexandrinsky theatre, frames for portraits in the Military gallery of the Winter Palace, the model of the grille of the Kazan Cathedral, etc. Work Zakharova was recognized by the Academy of Arts, which gave him the title of a free artist. For manufacture exhibition of 1839 for "carved under the direction of Dr. Buyalsky wood hearing organ", i.e. folding model ear, Zakharov was awarded a large silver medal.
