Land artist Anton Ivanovich Ivanov was born in the village of Kazakovo (near Arkhangelsk), Vladimir province. In childhood, fate brought him to painters — brothers.GN G. and G. G. Chernozemye. They were the first and main teachers aspiring to freedom and arts boys (1833-1839). In 1838, Ivanov, accompanying the brothers on the Volga from Rybinsk to Astrakhan, wrote his first extant picture "view of the workshop of brothers Chernetsov on the boat in their journeys along the Volga in 1838," which (and all subsequent) was distinguished by the fidelity of the image. Next came the painting "View of the Volga in the Zhiguli mountains," "Thunder in the mountains Sokovsky on the Volga" (both 1839), "the View of the village vinnovka on the Volga in Simbirsk" (1840), "Crossing N. In. Gogol across the Dnieper" (1845), "a Ferry across the Volga in Simbirsk" (1846). At the time of writing the last of these paintings in his life, A. I. Ivanov made a number of key events: in 1840 the brothers chernetsovs bought him from serfdom; from 1840 to 1845 he was volnoprihodyaschim student of the Academy of arts, awarded in 1844, for the painting "View of Tuchkov bridge from the embankment of Vasilyevsky island" a small silver medal; in 1845 he received the title of class artist.

As a pensioner Society for the encouragement of artists in 1846, A. I. Ivanov brothers Chernozemye went to Italy and remained there until the end of his life (even the strictest decree of Nicholas I of 1848 on his return to Russia did not affect the decision of the artist). It is clear that the banks of the Volga in the paintings of artist replaced by the beauty of Italy. Many of the landscapes of A. I. Ivanov was shipped to Russia, where it settled in private collections. In our time, they occupy a very honorable place in many museums around the country.
