Nasonovich Shtilman

Ukraine • 1902−1966

Biography and information

He studied at the Ukrainian state Academy of arts (1920-1927.). In

1927 became a member of the "Association of contemporary artists of Ukraine" actively participated in exhibition activities. Since 1933, the artist combines creative work with teaching at the Kiev art Institute, eventually becoming its Director (1940—

1944) and Professor (1947-1964.). In 1946 he was awarded the title "Honored worker of arts of the USSR."

As said by the artist himself, "the main in his work, consider working on the landscape". I note that the exhibition includes portraits and still lifes.

It's amazing, but his creative legacy will not find any signs of the so-called socialist realism of the manifestations of the blatantly pathetic Soviet painting. Perhaps the artist decided to stay true to themselves and to the future.

Although the creativity of Ilya Shtilman and present landscapes hot Asian Samarkand and cold Moscow Zagorsk places threw Ukrainian artists road of evacuation, however, the main theme of painting of the artist — Ukraine. The Dnieper slopes, with St. Andrew's Church and Vladimir the Baptist, Khreshchatyk street and Shevchenko Park, landscapes of Canevini and Chernigov, wheat fields, and blooming Apple orchards. All seasons, nature is alone and in trouble. This painting is seen not just canvases in frames, and wide open Windows to a beautiful world.
