Biography and information

Born in the village of Lukh of Kostroma province. Honored artist of the RSFSR (1963), people's artist of the RSFSR (1976). In 1933 he graduated from the seven-year period. From 1933 to 1938 he studied at the vocational school (later the Palekh art school). Teacher - A. V. Kotuhin. He was Secretary of the Komsomol organization of the school. Worked in the Palekh Association of artists since 1938. A member of the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-1940 and the great Patriotic war. Fought in the North Caucasus and the Steppe front. Was the editor and designer of a handwritten magazine "Communicator of the Caucasus." In 1945, captain Melnikov returned to Palekh. Member of the Union of artists of Russian Federation since 1950. In 1954-1970, he has been the Chairman of the Palekh branch of the Union of artists of the RSFSR, in 1970-1976 Director of the State Museum of Palekh art. Awarded the order of Lenin (1971). Died 12 Jan 1994, buried in Palekh.
