Biography and information

Born into a family of Dutch Consul in St. Petersburg. Initial education he received at the private St. Petersburg commercial Board G. A. Wiedemann. In 1875 G. P. C. Sathoff entered the Academy of fine Arts, where one of his works was awarded a silver medal. Some of the best student works PS Sathia were selected for the Museum of the Academy of Arts. PS Sathoff known primarily as a talented landscape painter, whose paintings have been exhibited at exhibitions of the St. Petersburg of the XIX – beginning of XX centuries Several works were purchased by artist and art historian A. N. Benoit for the collection of Princess M. Tenisheva, a famous patron of the arts.

In апреле1895 g. by decree of Nicholas II founded the Russian Museum of Emperor Alexander III (now – the State Russian Museum). For the collection of the newly created Museum of the Academy of Arts was transferred in 1897 to the opening of the first exhibition, part of a collection of works by the best graduates. Among these works was a painting by P. S. Sathia "Pond in Pavlovsk". The drafters of the first catalog of the Russian Museum described it as "greenish waters of the pond, stands on the left side of the beach is covered with trees, and, skirting the water, goes to the right".
