An auditor student of the Academy of Arts in 1852; pupil - from 1853 to 1861 he Received medals: in 1859 - a small silver medal for the painting "fisherman's Daughter" and "Group of horses"; in 1861 - a large silver for etude "horses, painted from nature"; in the same year - the title of class artist of 3 degrees; in 1870 - the title of class artist of 2nd degree for the painting "St. Andrew's market."
