Biography and information

Was the third oldest of the children of Russian Emperor Nicholas I (1825 – 1855). Just like her father, very serious and responsible approach to their education. Among her mentors was the writer P. Pletnev and poet Vasily Zhukovsky, who instilled in her a love of literature. All my life, professionally engaged in painting. In her diary (1837) described the first experience in handling oil painting: "My teacher of painting Nikolai Sauerweid de has equipped me for the Studio in Palace tower at a height of one hundred steps. From there I can watch the clouds and stars. He wants to teach me how to write quickly and effectively. I'm approaching this cautiously, but already copied several works in the Hermitage. One of them – "portrait of a French Grenadier" cistirna Verne". In 1846 married Karl Friedrich Alexander, later king of württemberg and moved to Germany, taking with them many valuable objects: gifts from relatives, personal library and, of course, own drawings. In the collection of the Russian state archive on the inventory is kept only five pencil drawings of Princess Olga Nikolaevna. Two picturesque portrait of her sisters Maria and Alexandra are stored in the collection of the Cottage Palace in Peterhof, owned by her mother Alexandra.
