Biography and information

Born in the village of Zhukovka Mosalsky district, in the family of a serf. In 1868 he was admitted a student at the Imperial Academy of arts, and two years later became her student. In 1874, for the execution of paintings, the "Marriage in Cana of Galilee," Nikolai Pavlovich was elected class artist I degree. At the beginning of 1880-x years he fulfilled a number of orders for Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich, mostly historical paintings from the reign of Ivan the terrible.

In 1890 work "the Family of Godunov" and "Morning of great Saturday" painter was awarded the title of academician of historical painting at the St. Petersburg Academy of arts.

In the Church of the Resurrection N. P.Shakhovskoy has prepared sketches for the mosaics 24. For iconostasis – "the last supper", "the Apostle Peter", "Andrew", "Paul", "Apostle John the Theologian", "the Apostle James zavedeeva", "the Apostle Bartholomew", "SV. Basil The Great, St. John Chrysostom". For the interior – "the Message of the apostles preaching", "Christ on the sea of Galilee", "the Unbelief of Thomas", "the appearance of Christ to the wives of the Holy myrrh-bearing women". For pilasters – "the Apostles of Agat and Silvanus", "Saints Dionysius the Areopagite and Dorotheus, Bishop of tyre," "the Martyr Panteleimon, Andrei Stratilat and Thekla", "Saint Paphnutius of Borovsk and the Nile manufacturer stolbensky", "the Holy Martyress Julia," "the Holy martyrs Gurias, Samonas and Alexander", "the Saints Vladimir and Olga", "the Holy martyrs Paramon and Fock", "St Safronov and Nektarios", "agony in the garden".
