Parajanov

Born in Tbilisi. In 1951 he graduated from VGIK (he studied under I. Savchenko). In Ukraine, created the movie: "Natalia uzhvy", "Golden hands", "Dumka" (all – 1957), "the First lad" (1958), "Ukrainian Rhapsody" (1961), "shadows of forgotten ancestors", etc. was arrested in 1973, released in 1977. People's artist of USSR from 1990. In 1993 in Kiev was an exhibition of art works of the master.

Real name - Parajanyan Sarkis.Born on 9 January 1924 in Tbilisi.Graduated from all-Union state Institute of cinematography(1951,workshop I. Savchenko).

In 1949-1960 — Director of the Kiev film Studio name A. Dovzhenko, in 1960-1980 — K/St "Studio" and "Georgia-film".He was an assistant Director in the film:"Third strike","Taras Shevchenko","Maxim". Took a series of documentary and popular science films: "Natalia uzhvy" (1957), Dumka (1957), Golden hands (1957), "Hakob Hovnatanian", "Niko Pirosmani". The author and co-writer, artist, number of plays and films.

In 1964 came his first masterpiece "shadows of forgotten ancestors" (based on the novel by Kotsyubinsky; award for best Director and the prize at the film festival in Mar del Plata, Argentina, 1965; the Cup I of the Festival of Festivals in Rome, Italy, 1965 awards), which brought the Director world fame. An Armenian Director has created a cinematic monument to the Hutsul culture. Amazing penetration in Western Ethnography is combined with a distinctive poetics of Parajanov. In 1974-1977 Parajanov was imprisoned, where this awkward, conflicted man was sent by skillfully drawn charges. With a request for the release of the Director appealed to Brezhnev Louis Aragon, and only then managed to get Parajanov to the area. After the return of Paradjanov worked at the Studio "Georgia-film", where, together with D. Abashidze has put "the Legend of Surami fortress" (1984). The core of the film — the Georgian legend about a young man zamurovali themselves in the walls of the fortress. The language of the new masterpiece Parajanov, developing found in "Color of pomegranates" has become more sophisticated.

In 1986 Parajanov documentary "Arabesques on the theme Pirosmani". "Ashik-Keriba" (1988, based on the story of M. Y. Died in Yerevan, 20th July 1990, at the beginning of work on the autobiographical film "Confession". He was buried in the Yerevan Pantheon.
