Biography and information

Born in the village of Georgievskoe in the Yaroslavl province. He studied at St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1872 – 1879). In 1875 he received two small silver medals, in 1876 – two large silver medals, 1878 – small gold medal, 1879 – a gold medal for the program "the Adulteress before Christ," and in the same year the gold medal for the painting "burial of a Christian Martyr in the catacombs". In 1881 was sent to the pensioner abroad for 4 years. He worked in Rome together with I. Seleznev and S. Bakalovich. In 1885 he received the title of academician. In 1886 – 1917 was appointed Director of the Art school in Odessa t-BA of fine arts. Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich. Founding member of Church. Participated in exhibitions of the St. Petersburg AI, Turk. In 1896, in Odessa, an exhibition of paintings by I. Levitan, V. A. Simov and Popov.
