Vasilyevich Popatenko

Russia • 1841−1920

Born in the city of Kerch. In 1864 he graduated from the course at St. Petersburg Institute of civil engineers. In 1874 he entered the post of Junior architect In the Perm provincial government, having worked before that in the Crimea, Saint – Petersburg and Ryazan. From 1878 to 1912, until his retirement, V. V. Popatenko animaltesting the position of the Perm provincial architect. In Perm under his supervision was built the first water. Popatenko is the author of more than 20 publications created at the turn of 19-20 centuries. Some of them have survived and continue to serve new generations.

About the last period of life of an architect little known. In 1912 V. V. Popatenko moved to Moscow. There he participated in exhibitions of society "the Moscow Salon" (1913год), Moscow tovaristva artists(1916), was one of the founders of the society of artists of the Moscow school(1917).

Back to the story of the ancient buildings of the hospital. As wrote local historian and archivist HP Cahalin, " you can see that it is inherent in the unique style: some shapes are reminiscent of the architecture of Ancient Russia, strict, clear lines, the decoration with elements of some symbols. It features the so-called "rational modern" style that prevailed in the late XIX – early XX century in Russian architecture". Confirmation of these words can serve as a list of other buildings built in this style, with the participation of V. V. Popatenko in our city: remline – training workshop (street Sverdlovsk, 76), city of St. Stephen's College( St. Lenin, 7), alekseyevskoye and Nasonovskii primary school (25th October St., 42), Olginskaya female school(street Siberian, 55), urban Aleksandrovskoe school( Sovetskaya str, 96A), Ekaterina – Petrovskoe city school (Bolshevistskaya, 71). In addition, in collaboration with R. Karwowski – the theater building, fire tower, etc.
