He graduated from the Academy of arts in Milan (1914) and archit. faculty of the Riga Polytechnic Institute (Moscow, 1917). From 1921 taught at the Moscow. VKhUTEMAS (from 1923 Professor), then, in Bauman. One of the leaders of constructivism, organizer and theoretician of the OSA (1925-32). Resp. ed. W. "Modern architecture" (1926-30). Housing projects of a new type of socialized life in Moscow (1926, 1930), the House of Soviets in Makhachkala, 1926; the sanatorium.Ordzhonikidze in Kislovodsk (1935-37, et al.) and other buildings. Tr. on the theory of architecture, including the book. "Rhythm in architecture" (1923), "Style and epoch" (1924), "Housing. Experience five years of work" (1934).
