Vysheslavtsev

In 1854 he graduated from the medical faculty of Moscow University. As a doctor he participated in the defense of Sevastopol during the Crimean war, which has devoted its military essays. Well-known books about the Italian Renaissance artists. On his circumnavigation he wrote the book "Sketches by pen and pencil of the circumnavigation, 1857, 1858, 1859 and I860", published the first edition in St. Petersburg in 1862, is a Big Chapter in the book (pp. 56-109) is devoted to the Cape colony, in which the author spent nearly three months. Vysheslavtsev talks about the cities and farms of the inner part of the colony, about his meetings with Dutch and English settlers. But especially a lot of space he devoted to the African peoples, their customs and traditions, leaders, rebellions and wars. Especially valuable this book with drawings by the author, depicting paintings of South African life in the middle of the XIX century.
