Biography and information

In 1815 one of the first Russian battle painters Vladimir Moshkov (Mashkov) created the painting, the author's name which is worth it to bring it in full: "the Battle before the city of Leipzig on Wachowski heights between the villages of Connewitz and Liebertwolkwitz, the former October 1813, the sixth day, in the presence of their Majesties the Emperor of Russia and king of Prussia, under the leadership of commander-in-chief of the Russian-Prussian armies of General of infantry M. B. Barklay de Tolly". The sizeable painting was remarkable for several reasons: it was dedicated to the key after the expulsion of Napoleon's troops from Russia to the battle, called "Battle of Nations"; was the quick response to the battle; was the reason for assigning the V. I. Moskova the title of academician.

Vladimir was born in Moscow. In 1801 (at age nine) was a graduate of the Academy of arts. In 1809, for student work received a small silver medal in 1810 — a large silver and in 1811 — a small gold medal for the program "to Introduce Europeans and Asians in a small number of cavalry, fighting among themselves". Graduated from the Academy a young painter under the guidance of M. M. Ivanova in 1812, when the painting "the Battle of the Romans and the Latin people" he received a gold medal and the diploma of the first degree to the title of the class artist.

In subsequent years, V. I. Moshkov worked and traveled. In the years 1816-1818 was in part of a diplomatic mission in Persia. In the years 1828-1829, together with the Russian army was in Asia Minor. Unfortunately, live he was little — he did not live even until fifty years old
