Student of the Academy of Arts in 1855, he Received medals: in 1851 - a silver 2 for a portrait from life of Mr. gericke (on the bone) and Ms. Sarte (watercolor); in 1852 - a small gold for the watercolor portrait gr. F. P. Tolstoy; in 1853 - 2 silver and 2 gold with the portrait of policemaster classes of the Academy of Arts, Fricke; in 1854 1 gold for a portrait gr. F. P. Tolstoy. In 1855 he was sent abroad pensioner Academy of fine Arts. In 1856 - the title of class artist; in 1861, the title of academician; in 1862, returned from abroad. (Kondakov)
