Academician of historical and portrait painting; was born in 1813 into a noble family of the Vilna lips. From childhood loved drawing, he studied them under the guidance of experienced teachers, and reaching 18 years of age, he determined was a teacher at the provincial high school and city school in Mogilev. In 1833 J. was admitted to the entrance examination to the Academy of fine Arts and received into the number of full-time her students on state content. In 1836 he graduated from the Academy with the title of a free artist and at the same time received from the Academy silver medal for written from life the portrait of the Canon, Gentille. In 1859, the Academy elevated him to the rank of an academician for full of them from life a portrait of adjutant-General count Osten-Saken, for many years of work in the artistic field and, among other things, for his work on the education of many students, some of which had already became famous for his works. Despite its extremely insufficient for his large family means Ya gave my apartment in order "school of painting" which is a free housed it for 30 years, and, in addition, contain yourself three incoming students of the Academy. Ya was a teacher of drawing in the 2-nd and 3-th St. Petersburg high schools and about 40 years, on behalf of the Academy of Arts and litigation departments, was a valuer of art works sent for sale for debt. In addition to portraiture, J. also engaged in the restoration of old paintings, eroded by time.
