He graduated from the Sverdlovsk Institute of architecture in 1972, Worked at the Department of fundamentals of architectural design. Has finished postgraduate study of the Moscow architectural Institute in 1978, with a thesis on "the Artistic and compositional preparation for higher school of architecture". From 1972 to 1990 he was head of the School of architecture and art. He taught at the Department of industrial design, led course and diploma projects. From 1990 to 2001 he headed the Department of composition-artistic training, he participated in the creation of the specialties of monumental-decorative and decorative-applied art. Pedagogical activity is marked by diplomas of the first degree of the Union of architects, the diploma of the American Institute of architects, thanked the Ministry of education of Sverdlovsk region. N. P. Courgenay in collaboration with T. A. Ushakova written two textbooks: "Artistic-compositional preparation for higher school of architecture" and "Basics of graphical modeling in architectural design".
