Description of the artwork «Autumn»

The autumn landscape is done in a peculiar, somewhat stylized manner. Such an approach can be called avant-garde. But let's look at the date of creation of the work - 1970. At the height of the stagnant Soviet period. What kind of avant-garde can there be? Only underground. And indeed the artist Plastinin can be called a representative of the Vladimir underground.
"Children of the Khrushchev Thaw - if that's how you can call all the artists who wanted to look for something new, to find their own way, who wanted to break free from the shackles of socialist realism - existed all over the country. And if in such large centers as Moscow and Leningrad, they united into groups, forming an underground, in the provinces, due to their small number, such people existed practically by themselves. But despite this, there were underground artists in the provinces as well.
And Vladimir Plastinin was just the kind of person who did not want to languish within the framework of socialist realism, but sought his own way in art. Of course, there was practically nowhere to exhibit such works, no exhibitions would have missed them. And not in vain this painting was found by the artist's daughter in the basement after he had passed away.
It should be noted that Vladimir Plastinin as an artist is very diverse. Constant creative search, a variety of manners and techniques of writing - these are his characteristic features as a master, which remained until the last days of his life. And this work is an illustration of the artist's search for the period of the 70s.
This is not a golden autumn, but a khaki autumn. This is how the artist saw an overcast, sad early autumn day in the vicinity of his native Vladimir. The trees look a little dark, but that's how it is in cloudy autumn weather. And the seemingly monotonous coloring of the work is in fact, if you look closely, is very rich, with many shades.
Sharp, bold strokes in the sky and rippling water surface create a sense of windy weather. And the stylized shape of the tree crowns, as if conveying the swaying of the leaves, further reinforces this impression.
It's a dreary time, but still the artist's eyes are fascinated by such autumn colors as well. And he tries to find unusual, original forms to show the viewer the beauty of different states of nature.
