Born October 10, 1939 in Leningrad in a family of the artist – blacksmith (died in 1941 at the front in the defense of Leningrad).
In 1942 from the siege of Leningrad little John along with her older sister Natasha was taken on the "Road of Life" in the evacuation in the town of Budennovsk (Stavropol Krai). After the siege they returned to his native Leningrad.
In 1948, the gifted boy goes to Leningrad secondary art school("the school") at the Academy of Arts of the USSR, which ends with honors.
1957-1961 -he served in the army in the elite regiment, a party of seven military parades on red square.
1968-1973 -studied at the Leningrad higher art-industrial school im. V. I. Mukhina at the Department of glass and ceramics.
1973-1975 -artist glass plant.1КДО, village of bol'shaya Vishera the Novgorod region.
From 1975-1997 an artist at the Dyatkovo crystal factory, Dyatkovo Bryansk region.
Was the constant participant of international, all-Union, Republican, zonal and branch exhibitions.
Personal exhibitions in Moscow (1988),in Leningrad (1989), in the Royal chambers Zvenigorod (2014).
In the works of Ivan Machnev intelligence, intense creativity combines with high creative freedom, wit and experimentation - all of his works are present and infused an element of good jokes, irony and delight.
Brilliantly mastering the art of ALMACIGA and being a connoisseur of all the rules of the classical system of decoration of crystal products, the artist acted as a pioneer, breaking all the rules, but not breaking with traditions, and updating them, thus opening a new page in the history of the development of RUSSIAN CRYSTAL.
