Dmitrievich Shipov

Master of military portrait. Born in Kostroma, Russia. From 1875 was a free listener of the St. Petersburg Academy of arts. In 1880 he entered the service. Studied painting, not leaving military service. In 1883 he graduated in the corps of pages. From 1904 – commander of the East Siberian Streltsy regiment. In 1909 he was transferred to the Retinue, since 1915 – Lieutenant General. In 1904 – 1915 he received many awards for military honor and bravery, among which was a Golden weapon. He painted portraits of soldiers, watching them in action and at rest. Did pencil sketches and watercolor portraits. One of the main representatives of the Russian military portrait of turn of the century.
