Frans Francken the Younger (Dutch: Frans Francken (II), b. 1581 Antwerp - d. may 6, 1642 Antwerp) was a Flemish Baroque painter, one of the most famous masters of the Franken family of artists.
Frans Franken the Younger came from a famous family of painters, with traditions dating back to the first half of the 16th century. He was the third son of the painter Frans Franken the Elder (1542-1616), for which reason he signed his paintings "Junior" until 1616. In 1605, he joins the St. Luke's Art Guild of Antwerp and subsequently becomes its chairman.
He created a large number of small format cabinet paintings on historical, allegorical, mythological and biblical subjects. He also popularized some new themes and subjects in Flemish painting, for example, he developed genre painting, introduced into his genre paintings some "new" animals for his contemporaries, such as monkeys (this "monkey" theme was then developed in his works by David Teniers the Younger).
