Description of the artwork «The collector's room. 1625»
In the work of Franken, another trend of the time was reflected - a fascination with collecting. It was fashionable to collect not only paintings, but also weapons, costumes, books, exotic plants, various antiquities. In painting, too, a peculiar direction emerged, corresponding to the tastes of collectors, - an image of the interiors of an antique shop or an art gallery. The honor of creating this particular branch of the domestic genre belongs to the family of Frankenes, in particular to Frans Franken the Younger, who first began to write such paintings.
