Childhood hobby has defined its further destiny. In 1931 he entered the art Institute in Odessa.

Orphan "origin" made itself felt. Had to make a living. Worked digger from "cubic meter"... It helped to survive, to learn...

Forced breaks from study to avoid could not, come hungry 1933-34g.g. After the reorganization of the Odessa art Institute Joseph Giller continued his studies at the Kiev art Institute, from which he graduated in 1941. Among the teachers, Fedor Krichevsky, among students with whom he studied – Tatyana Yablonskaya, Evgeniy Luchenko, Eugene Volobuev, Tamara khitrova, Constantine Screws, Konstantin Krill and many other famous masters of painting. The prewar years were fruitful for the talents...

The war dramatically interrupted the peaceful life. The graduation, three-month courses at the Academy of engineering – Lieutenant, commander of an engineering platoon, Raisins-Barvenkovsky direction (for those who know about this tragedy). Went through the whole war. Conclusion the most dramatic period of his life in Berlin. Always thought he was lucky – not killed, not wounded, Demobilized only in 1948, and in 1952-53, G. G., re-enlisted in the army - the northernmost part of the Soviet Union, the Peninsula Rybachiy.

With time came recognition, became a member of the Union of artists of the USSR. Participated in many exhibitions of different "level". May be purchased by foreign art connoisseurs, the fall in domestic museums.

Creative formation and affirmation of the artist took place on the principles dominant in the Soviet Union of socialist realism. In this direction of painting Joseph Giller was able to realize himself as a painter. His life has not left the theme of war, the dramatic image of man in the extreme circumstances of his life. Later came to the fore the theme of beautiful nature, creativity, life-affirming... started Painting EN plein air – his second passion. Landscape paintings demonstrate a masterful ability restrained and, simultaneously, a means of expression to convey the mood they evoke in the viewer the desire to plunge into the sensual world of associations...

A separate page in the works of Joseph Hiller of Berlin is its unique series of sketches "In defeated Reichstag. 1945". Sensing the uniqueness of the historical moment, the artist has managed to fix it by means of painting. The eyes of a Lieutenant of the artist, the viewer saw the spot where was raised the bloody point of the last world war. Only the stone ruins... not one person... These sketches already have the quality of historical relics.

The last years of the artist's characteristic lightness of touch, absence, per se, of the figure, sketch the completeness of the work.

The creative legacy of the artist with the years scattered around the world, many paintings found their new owners. Works are preserved in England, Italy, Japan, USA, South Korea, and in private collections. Much of the work is kept by the heirs of the artist.
