A leading painter of Leningrad of the late 1950s - early 1960s, was Awarded the Silver medal of the all-Union art exhibition (1967). The diploma of the Ministry of culture of the RSFSR (1957).

In 1950-1956 he studied at the Institute of painting, sculpture and architecture. I. E. Repin in Leningrad (Studio of V. M. Oreshnikov).

In the 1950s he regularly visited at the Academic dacha them. Repin near vyšný Volochek.

The name of Nikolai Pozdneev became known to Soviet audiences after the creation of such works as "In school" (1956) and "Spring day" (1959). The picturesque style of the artist was distinguished by the originality of the composition, a wide textured letter, the absolute sense of color.

Works are in State Tretyakov gallery, the other art museums of the former USSR.
