Marie-Henri Beyle (fr. Marie-Henri Beyle; 23 January 1783, Grenoble - 23 March 1842, Paris) - French writer, one of the founders of the psychological novel. In the press he appeared under different pseudonyms, and published his most important works under the name of Stendhal. During his life he was known not so much as a novelist, but as the author of books about the sights of Italy.
