Night

Frits Thaulov in many respects can be considered a unique artist. At least because he was the first Norwegian artist, famous in Europe and beyond. And besides Thaulov even in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, during the revolutions picturesque and bold artistic experiments, remained faithful to the traditional school and loyal to his favorite genre. The only thing that has enriched the artist the Impressionists, is the habit of working EN plein air to more accurately convey the colours of nature and lighting effects of different times of day. The rest of the work Taulava remains purely realistic. The most successful of these, the artist considered those that were written in the small towns and inconspicuous areas of Norway and France. To such pictures, perhaps, can be attributed "Night", the exact date of which is unknown.

Here Thaulov drawn so dear to them the charm of winters. And again finds the ability to skillfully portray the glare and reflections in the water. And despite the fact that it is just melt-water not too clean way, the play of light is consistently mesmerizing.

It is noteworthy that the painting "the Night" is stored in the State Hermitage. Frits Thaulov maintained friendly relations with prominent Russian painters Valentin Serovym and By Konstantin Korovin. In 1895 he introduced a personal exhibition in Saint-Petersburg some of his works, which were very favourably received by the public, critics and colleagues. It is believed that the work of the Norwegian artist has had a profound effect on Russian painters of the time. In particular, Alexander Benois considered Taulava second largest after the artist Claude Monet.
