In 1929 he graduated from the workshop of figurative painting. Tillberga in Latvian Academy of art with degree work "Washerwoman".

For further study he traveled to European centers of art – Paris, Florence, Rome, Venice, Vienna and German cities.

After graduating from the Academy, the artist worked as a drawing teacher.

In exhibitions, Y. Jeghers participated since 1928.

He participated in all exhibitions organized by the cultural Foundation (in 1942 received an award of FC).

In 1934 organized a separate exhibition with J. Zvirbulis and O KRC.

In 1944 he emigrated to Germany and in 1950 goes to the USA, where also organized two exhibitions of his work.
