Biography and information

Studied at the Riga city school of the arts (1910 – 15).

In 1919 in Petrograd, he graduated from master classes and performances of the stage, which was headed by V. Meyerhold.

In 1926 he graduated from the workshop of Figurative painting. Tillberga at the Latvian Academy of arts with the thesis "Palace build".

In 1932, J., Munzi graduated College West California, with a bachelor's degree in philosophy.

The artist worked as an assistant Y. Kuga at the New Riga theatre (1910 – 11), set designer at the Latvian Opera (1913 – 14), the Riga Latvian theater (1914 – 15).

During the First world war, he worked in different theaters of Moscow and Petrograd.

Ya Mantis participated in the creation of Daile theatre (1920), where until 1926 he worked as a decorator.

In 1926, he moved to the United States.

In 1926 32 years the artist worked in the theatre Pasadena a suburb of Los Angeles, was also the teacher of the school theater Pasadena.

In 1932, J., Mantis returned to Latvia.

Worked at the National theatre and Daile theatre.

In 1944 he emigrated to Germany.

Augsburg was led by the people's high school.

In 1949 he migrated to the United States.

The artist was a member of unity of Independent artists.

He participated in exhibitions of the Latvian culture Foundation, also in many international exhibitions (1925 in Paris, has received the Grand Prix in 1937 in Paris was awarded a gold medal).
