Biography and information

Julius Bissier (German: Julius Bissier; December 3, 1893, Freiburg - June 18, 1965, Ascona) - German artist of the New Materiality direction.

Born into a poor family. When the boy was 13 years old, his father was mentally ill and died a year later.

1913 - studied art history for some time at the University of Freiburg 1914 - continued his studies at the Karlsruhe Art Academy 1914-1918 - was drafted into the army 1918 - continued his studies as an artist in Munich 1928 - received a gold medal in the field of painting in the city of Düsseldorf 1929-1933 - taught in Freiburg University of 1934 - in a fire at the university, a huge number of the artist's works 1935-1938 perishes - repeatedly visits Italy 1939 - moves to Hagnau on Lake Constance 1955/1956 begins his series of works "Miniatures" 1958 - retrospect and Yu.Bisse works "Kostnera society", Hannover 1959 - participates in an exhibition of contemporary art II of the document, Kassel; the artist is awarded the Cornelius Prize of the City of Dusseldorf 1959/1960 - J. Bissier creates wall panels for the University of Freiburg; a retrospective of his work at the Gemeente-Museum, The Hague and the Palace of Fine Arts, Brussels 1964 - the artist wins the Great Prize in the art of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia 1965 - an exhibition of the artist's works in Edinburgh (posthumous). From 1961 until his death, J. Bissier lives in Ascon, canton of Ticino, Switzerland. In the same city is an extensive archive of the artist.
