Herman Hendrych (it. Hermann Hendrich, rod. 31 Oct 1854 Heringen, Thuringia — mind. On July 18, 1931, Shriberg, now Szklarska poręba, lower Silesia) is a German artist.

G. Hendrych was born in the family of a Baker. In the years 1870-1872 was studying lithography. After working in Hannover for the manufacturing of table lamps, illustrates where promotional catalogs. At this time the young man gets acquainted with the musical works of Richard Wagner (Opera tannhäuser), and is an avid fan of his. Since 1875, the artist lives and works in Berlin and goes from graphics to oil painting. In 1876 he commits an educational tour through Norway. After paintings by G. Hendrych was criticized by a Commission of the Great Berlin art exhibition, he went to Amsterdam, where he worked as a painter. In 1882 G. Hendrych married, and then went to new York, where his cousin lives and where he organises the first exhibition and sale of their work, and also makes a study trip to the USA.

In 1885 G. Hendrych returned to Germany and listening to lectures by Professor of painting Verlaine in Munich, then moved to Berlin and makes yet another educational journey through Norway. In 1886 he entered to continue art education at the Berlin art Academy, which receives a scholarship from the Ministry of education of Prussia. At this time his paintings first exhibited in Germany. In 1889 one of the paintings of the artist buys the German Emperor, and from that moment on the creativity of the Hendrych gets universal recognition.

G. Hendrych was in 1905, one of the founders of the Union, Verdandi (Werdandibund), who opposed modernist trends in the visual arts. In 1910 he was awarded the title of Professor of art. In Berlin in honor of the artist was named one of the squares of the city (Hendrikplein).
