Andrey Ivanov — Russian painter, representative of classicism, the father of the famous painter Alexander Ivanov.

Of his parents nothing is known, spent his childhood in the foundling house in Moscow, so most likely was an illegitimate foundling.

In 1782-97, he studied at Ugryumova, as well as Yegorov and Shebuyev at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. In 1797, for the painting "Noah upon leaving the ark brings a sacrifice to God," received a Large gold medal and diploma of the 1st degree to the title of the class artist. Was left by the pensioner at the Academy for "the greater in the arts of knowledge." Taught there in 1798, was a prominent educator and a master of academic drawing. 1800 — received the title of "appointed", 1803 — academician for the painting "Adam and eve with children under a tree after the expulsion from Paradise" and "Christ in the wilderness." At this time Ivanov did a lot of copying old Italian masters of the XVII century (Domenichino, caracci, Guido Reni) and wrote many icons for churches. From 1812 — Professor for the painting "the single Combat of Prince Mstislav prosperous with cooskin Prince Redada". In 1820 wrote "Minerva floating in the sky," for cast-iron staircases of the Academy of Arts.

Was an active member of Free society of lovers of literature, Sciences and arts. Died from cholera.

Was married to Ekaterina Ivanovna, Desert (mind.1842).
