Description of the artwork «Poetry. From the series "Art"»

The woman, according to the Flies, making all beautiful things that are on earth, even the art itself, which the artist served throughout his life. So there was a series of decorative panels of "Art" (1898), where the allegorical female figures represent Poetry, Music, Dance and Painting. Pensive nymph, staring into the distance at the open landscape and shaded by Laurel branches-a symbol of Poetry. The girl on the toes with flowing hair -- this, of course, Dance. In its position it resembles the sculpture "Bacchante" Greek masters scopas: the same sloped back housing, the same turn of the head. The unique energy of motion is passed in a circle twisting strands of long hair and clothes women, echoing her dance. Fly away from the custom to depict characters with the traditional attributes of art. So, his Painting is not holding in the hands of the brush, however, the viewer does not doubt that she embodies the art of the artist: she paints the stem of a flower, a rainbow spiral behind her symbolizes the color palette. On the panel "Music" contrary to the tradition image of the allegorical figure with a musical instrument the girl listens to the wonderful sounds of birdsong. The author offers your associations a little unexpected, but definitely thin. By replacing the usual attributes of art (brushes, artist, Lira) on the objects of living nature (flower and bird) the images of his heroines get more lyrical and more universal interpretation.
