Giuseppe Santomaso (ital. Giuseppe Santomaso) — Italian painter.
Santomaso, was born in a family jeweler in Venice, and the greater part of his life spent in his hometown. In the years 1932-1934 he studied at the Venice Academy of fine arts. Already in 1934 he was invited to participate in the Venice Biennale. Santomaso interested in the first avant-garde art. In 1937, he makes a study trip to the Netherlands, where he studied the works of the Impressionists and the fauves. During trips to Paris, associated with the opened in this city a world exhibition, Santomaso acquainted with the paintings of Matisse, Georges Braque, Bonnard and Picasso. In 1939, a solo exhibition of works by Santomaso in a Parisian gallery Rive Gauche.
1946godu, Santomaso involved in the creation of the progressive art group Nuova Secessione artistica italiana. Later, this group takes the name of the New front for the arts (Fronte Nuovo delle Arti). The aim of the front is the struggle for a modern, dynamically developing art. Soon, however, the "front" is divided into two currents — the realistic and abstract lines. Santomaso belongs to the "abstract" group. In 1952, this group takes the name of the Gruppo degli Otto, it organizes the General exhibitions for their members. In 1950-ies of the painting, Santomaso is becoming more and more abstract features, it tends to informative art. In the 1960s his work has become more calm and clear, the clearer it becomes their schedule. In the 1970s they viewed the architectural elements of Venetian palaces, paintings, Santomaso more reflect the traits of his native city.
In 1954-1974, the artist teaches at the Venice Academy and in the same period, 13 times involved in the Biennale. Also participates in contemporary art exhibitions, documenta I, II and III in Kassel (in 1955, 1959 and 1964), as well as in numerous national and international art exhibitions.
