This small (13 5 cm), elongated plaque with profile portrait of an old woman stored in the Museum of Boymans van Beuningen (Rotterdam), currently with a high degree of confidence atributiruetsya the Bosch, although it was previously attributed to artists Pieter Bruegeland Jakob Cornelis van Oostsanen.
The work is of sufficient quality, however, most researchers agree that, most likely, it is not a self-portrait and a fragment of a larger unpreserved panel. The outline of the profile reminds me of the characters in the work of Hieronymus Bosch "Ship of fools" – the singing nun.
There is an assumption that the woman's head was part of an alternative authorial version of this picture.
The German art historian Max Friedlander, author of the famous work "About the art and anatocismo", found this picture of Bosch at one of the Amsterdam art sales in August 1933, where she was brought some venecianskom collector. In the same year "the old woman's Head" bought by Daniel George van Beuningen, the Dutch industrialist and collector. He died in 1955, and in 1958 the picture in accordance with his will, were transferred to the Museum.
