Description of the artwork «The Temptation Of St. Anthony»

Stored in Art the Nelson-Atkins Museum (Kansas city, Missouri) Board "The temptation of St. Anthony" until recently was considered one of the followers of Hieronymus Bosch. In 2016, the year of the reputable Dutch experts of the project "Study and preservation of the art of Hieronymus Bosch" (Bosch Research and Conservation Project) made the sensational statement that the picture may be original Bosch.

Known personal interest of Hieronymus Bosch to the person of this Saint. The first biography of St. Anthony, established by Athanasius the Great, talks about how in 271-year young man named Anthony went into the desert, there to indulge in prayer and ascetic exploits. In the time of Bosch has become very popular compilation of the Golden legend of Jacob Warynskiego where very colorfully zhivopisets temptations that were sent to Antony. In 1478, the year, i.e. in those years when Bosch was young, left the Dutch edition of the "Golden legend", which influence many Northern artists, and Bosch in particular – Anthony was the name of the artist's father, this same Saint was dedicated to the house Church van Akanov, so the exploits of Anthony has been the subject of much artistic interest Bosch: also dedicated to him picture of Prado, triptych "The temptation of St. Anthony" and a few drawings (1, 2, 3).
