Description of the artwork «The Holy family (the Madonna of Tagil)»

There are dozens of versions of "Madonna with veil" ("Madonna del Popolo"). It is now believed that the brush of Raphael Santi belongs to the one that is stored in the French musée condé, it is dated 1508, the year. A picture of the Nizhny Tagil Museum is dated 1509, the year. On the Museum's website next to the name of the author (Raphael) is the question mark. But Igor Grabar that 20-ies of the last century, engaged in the restoration of "Tagil Madonna", believed that it was this picture, found on a dusty attic of the Manor house in Nizhny Tagil and possibly originating from Demidov's collection, painted by Raphael (a French version is probably the author's repetition the repetition a good thing).

The fact that the dress of the Madonna of Tagil paintings carefully displayed "Raphael Urbinas pingebat MDIX" ("Raphael of Urbino wrote in 1509, the year"), just the argument: the author copy first, then fudges autograph. But studies have shown that the Creator of the picture from Nizhny Tagil tried several options for the location of the Baby, not yet found, and this may indicate that we are not dealing with a copyist, but a thoughtful author.

After opening Grabar "Tagil Madonna" dwelt in the Pushkin Museum, but in the 70s it was returned to Nizhny Tagil: an eloquent gesture, indicating that modern art historians believe this painting a copy of Raphael. After the Hermitage sales The 1930-ies the works of Raphael in Russia is extremely low genuine work of genius of the High Renaissance would have left in the capital.

What is known exactly is that "Tagil Madonna" is written in a very strong cypress Board. First picture was right side: fragment with Joseph someone thought to make a step on the stairs.
