KIZHI. Russian North

Design and applied art, XXI century, 23×23 cm

Description of the artwork «KIZHI. Russian North»

The Church "KIZHI. Russian North" made on the basis of the reconstruction of St. Barbara's Church in the village of Yandomozero (Russia).
The small island of Kizhi is located in the North severe of lake Onega. Its name recalls the ancient rites (translated from the Karelian word "kizhat" means "merrymaking").
First of Spasskiy Pogost in Kizhi mentioned in historical sources 1496. It unites more than 100 villages located on the neighboring Islands.
In the monuments of the Kizhi ensemble is most fully embodied the best traditions of Russian carpenters, the ideal of beauty, born in the constant vicinity of the fields, forests, lakes, native hut. And today these buildings are considered the pinnacle of the development of wooden Church architecture of Ancient Russia.

When you create a work the author did not seek to accurately reproduce the monument of architecture. He slightly lengthened the proportions of the basic parts of the structure, so the Church began to be perceived more slender, elevated. This approach is supported by the main tradition of the ancient masters: to build not the template, and "fearfully and wonderfully and gracefully" "as the measure and beauty will tell you."
This work is part of the collection of the exhibition the Miracle match (Boors of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, the world).
