Painter, graphic artist. The leading genres in his works was a portrait and landscape, but he
applied to still life and thematic painting. A large place in his work
took these types of graphics as watercolor, etching, linocut.
Born in Penza in the family of an employee of the railroad, 1918, after demobilization from
the army arrived in Kaluga, who lived at this time there with his parents, where he taught at
Kaluga real school. Studied at the Imperial Academy of arts (1905–
1914) under p. P. Chistyakov, V. E. Savitsky, after he was awarded the title of artist for
his diploma film "Tsar Ivan the terrible and the priest Sylvester during the big
the fire of Moscow, 24 June 1547" (State Russian Museum, St.
Petersburg).
After the October revolution, like many artists of that time worked in
the education authorities. In Kaluga gubernia Department of public education, he
created a sub-Department in Museum Affairs, the preservation of monuments of art and antiquities. Staff
of the Department did rescue and preservation of the noble estates and who were in them
cultural values. In 1921 he became head of the Kaluga art
Museum, and from 1924 to 1935 served as head of art
Department the Kaluga state regional Museum, while being
the head of the Studio at the Kaluga art Museum.
V. N. Lewandowski was an active initiator and organizer of exhibitions in Kaluga
artists. He was Chairman of the Kaluga branch of the Association of artists
revolutionary Russia (AHRR, 1926-1932). Many efforts were devoted to teaching
work, Kaluga many famous artists such as V. V. Shcheglov, V. P. Lyubimov and
L. E. Meukow were his disciples.
Exhibition of works of V. N. Lewandowski, dedicated to the 125th anniversary of his
birth and called "More than an artist..." was held in Kaluga from July 14th to
30 Aug 2009. The exhibition presents paintings and graphics
by V. N. Lewandowski in the years 1920-1930. The visitors had
a rare opportunity to see works of painting and graphics of V. N. Lewandowski from
funds of the Kaluga regional art Museum, as well as a photo with
lost paintings "March", which was stolen during the Nazi occupation
Kaluga in 1941. The exhibition also includes documents and photographs Saucedo the archives of the Museum depicting the cultural life of the Kaluga 1920-1930-ies and
about the role VN. Lewandowski. The aim of this exhibition was to talk about VN.
Lewandowski not only as an artist but also as a leader of the culture of the first third of the XX
century.
