Biography and information

a historical painter. Being sent at public expense abroad, visited Germany, Belgium, France, Spain, Syria and Egypt; returned to Russia in 1859, he entered service at the Moscow school of painting, sculpture and architecture teacher of painting, a post which he held until the end of his life. In 1861, written in Rome painting "the Annunciation" was awarded the title of academician. They performed, among other things, the six images in the iconostasis and wall paintings of the evangelists Mark and John, the last supper, the Savior in glory and the sermon on the mount in the Parisian Orthodox Church and the written figures of saints Lawrence and Stephen to the North and South doors and some of the images in the iconostasis of the Moscow Cathedral of the Savior.

Yevgraf Sorokin was born in 1821 in Kostroma province. In his youth he studied fine arts at one of the Yaroslavl icon-painter. Has achieved considerable success, was spotted by the local priest and received the order for the painting of the Church. On the advice of the priest, Sorokin wrote to the arrival of Emperor Nicholas I in Yaroslavl picture under long name "Peter the Great, for mass in the Cathedral, notice the painting of his portrait by the master and anticipates it gifted painter". The painting was presented to the Emperor, and he commanded to take Sorokina at the Academy of arts (1841). Sorokin studied at the Academy under the guidance of Professor A. Markov. In 1845 he received a large silver medal for the sketch from nature, and after four years the gold medal for the execution of the competition program "Jan UNMOVIC stops raging bull".

 

For successes in training were sent at public expense to Europe, visited Germany, Belgium, France and Spain as well as Syria and Egypt. For in Rome the painting "the Annunciation", he received the title of academician. In addition, Sorokin has created this period of six images in the iconostasis and wall paintings of the evangelists Mark and John, the last Supper, the Savior in glory and the sermon on the mount in the Parisian Orthodox Church. Has also created a number of secular works — wrote a few scenes of Spanish and Italian life, such as "Spanish Gypsies" and "Date" and "Beggar girl in Spain". In 1859, he returned to Russia and entered the Moscow school of painting, sculpture and architecture teacher of painting. In this position remained until the end of his life, led scenic drawing and life classes.

 

In 1860 Sorokin was head of paintings at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. They performed, in particular, the figures of saints Lawrence and Stephen to the North and South doors and some of the images in the iconostasis of Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Savior, as well as finished and partially rewritten on the walls of the temple the work of F. A. Bruni, remaining as incomplete due to his death. For his work in the temple Sorokin in 1878 he received the title of Professor.
