Being sent at public expense abroad, visited Germany, Belgium, France, Spain, Syria and Egypt; returned to Russia in 1859, he entered service at the Moscow school of painting, sculpture and architecture teacher of painting, a post which he held until the end of his life. Yevgraf Sorokin was born in 1821 in Kostroma province. In his youth he studied fine arts at one of the Yaroslavl icon-painter. Has achieved considerable success, was spotted by the local priest and received the order for the painting of the Church. On the advice of the priest, Sorokin wrote to the arrival of Emperor Nicholas I in Yaroslavl picture under long name "Peter the Great, for mass in the Cathedral, notice the painting of his portrait by the master and anticipates it gifted painter". The painting was presented to the Emperor, and he commanded to take Sorokina at the Academy of arts (1841). Sorokin studied at the Academy under the guidance of Professor A. Markov. In 1860 Sorokin was head of paintings at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. They performed, in particular, the figures of saints Lawrence and Stephen to the North and South doors and some of the images in the iconostasis of Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Savior, as well as finished and partially rewritten on the walls of the temple the work of F. A. Bruni, remaining as incomplete due to his death. For his work in the temple Sorokin in 1878 he received the title of Professor.
