Description of the artwork «The Golden Leopard»

BARS - a symbol of military valor and royal power, widespread in the Scythian world. The dynasty that ruled Alanya considered the leopard to be one of its heraldic attributes.
The heraldic use of the image of the leopard (panther) is well traced back to the Scythian era. Among the surviving masterpieces of the Scythian animal style - heraldic plates and royal regalia with the image of this predator.
The first variants of the future state emblem of Alania-Ossetia-images of a leopard against the background of the World Mountain-were found on the headdress of the Scythian king of the 4th century. BC. e. (Issyk burial mound in Kazakhstan). With these findings in the territory of Eastern Scythia, the fact of the Central Asian location of the warlike Alan elite of the first centuries of the new era, including the ruling dynasty in Alanya, is in good agreement.
-------------------------------------------------- ---------
The leopard / leopard cult was present in archaic Indo-European and Indo-Iranian traditions. The Ossetian name of the "fark / falank" leopard is a single semantic circle with similar notation in the Indo-Iranian languages. It is based on the root with the meaning "motley", "bright".
Borrowing from the Persian palang probably occurred back in the Scythian-Sarmatian period. It is possible that the antiquities corresponding to the parameters of the Scythian-Saki or East-Iranian ethnocultural world, it is expedient to explain the basic metaphors of the emblem.
