The most famous symbol of human evolution dealt a crushing blow. For over thirty years from the pages of magazines, books, Newspapers, in museums and on television flew unabashed statement: "Australopithecus afar (lat. Australopithecus afarensis), known by the name of Lucy and presumably lived about 3.2 million years ago, is the ancestor of all mankind!"
