Socio-cultural changes that have occurred in recent decades in Russian society, caused changes in the entire artistic model. Popular are those artists who did not fit into the system of Soviet art. Among them - Krasnodar painter Nicholas Cherniak, who entered the artistic life in the late 1980s.
Born in the postmodern environment of the metropolis, Cherniak thinks and works as polistilism: ranging from post-impressionism and neoempirism to abstraction. It inherits the logic of the development of modern painting, who was born in the Russian art of the XX century, and seeks to preserve the traits of belonging to high culture. In contrast, for example, from the American abstract artists, which offered a way full of spontaneity and going beyond the canvas, Krasnodar master remains in the space of the picture plane.
Departing from realism, Cherniak does not destroy the traditional genre hierarchy. He is a master of not only the free non-figurative and semi-abstract paintings, but also of landscape, portrait, still life? mythological compositions. It works more generic than genre and appliances. They use a conditional language allowing to specify and to create images that are woven from free Association. Man is understood as a part of the Universe, but not in the context of history and society. Reduction of the material world gives you the opportunity to turn its eyes to the world of pure spirit. The experience of harmony and awareness of the inscrutability of a higher power is pushing the artist to reflection and contemplative perception of reality.
Contemplation and the ability to capture on canvas the state of consciousness manifested in a realistic and non-objective works. Born of fanciful imagination, materialists female images ("Green vision". Oil on canvas. 2007; "Lady in white" (Canvas, oil, 2009), there are mythological characters ("pan and the nymph". Oil on canvas.2012; "30 pieces of silver". Oil on canvas. 2010), the memories of what he saw landscapes burst into song ("Morning silver of the day. Oil on canvas".2007; "Song bird". Oil on canvas. 2009; "an Evening melody". Oil on canvas. 2005). The material language of painting: acrylic textures, glaze - "leads" of the master, and it dissolves in the flow of lines and spots.
After a classical education, inheriting the traditions of the Russian academic and the realistic school, Nicholas Cherniak goes his own way – through improvisation, experimentation, active use of the subconscious. When he sits down to work, it is likely that first listens to the voice over. He remembers those of Plato's eidoses (prototypes) that are circling in the space liptokova field.
