Description of the artwork «Bath Day»

Once, in 1987, I was visiting the village of Yalguba. I went to the shore where there were bathhouses. The relief of the shore is such that walking for some time towards the shore, you see only the roofs of the bathhouses. Then the shore abruptly breaks off, and you see the bathhouses, the lake surface, and the bridges. And here I saw a naked girl leaning down from the bridges to the water and drawing water with a bucket. I felt as if I had been given an ice-cold shower. I abruptly turned around and walked away. But this picture remained in my memory. And when I started to draw, I wanted to draw this incident. That bathhouse is long gone. It burned down. The girl is 35 years older now. But the picture will live for a long time.
