About the Terem Palace
Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich was very fond of Kolomenskoye, here he hunted and received ambassadors and it was he who turned his estate into a fabulous house. Construction took place five years from 1667 to 1672, the work was performed by talented master carpenters under the leadership of Ivan Mikhailov and Semyon Petrov.
It should be noted that Peter the Great, the son of Alexei Mikhailovich, valued his father’s house. Here he learned to write and count, he sailed here, rafting along the Moscow River, and here he developed a desire for military service.
However, later, when the capital was moved to Petersburg, the Moscow manor was abandoned and over the years has deteriorated greatly. It turned out to be difficult to restore it, and Catherine II ordered to disassemble the building, but first measure and draw the plans of all the rooms.
Fortunately, documents and drawings have survived to this day, and the ensemble in Kolomenskoye was recreated according to them in 2007-2010.
